People without cracks don't exist. If they seem flawless, it's just a facade. I have found that imperfections make us who we are. They are not flaws to anyone but ourselves. Embracing them, and loving ourselves regardless is how we move toward wholeness.

"Mom always said don't play ball in the house... " Classic.

Agree they don't exist. I think precieved cracks are what make interesting

Beautiful! Mend with gold!

But as Robert Frost said, "Nothing Gold Can Stay"

Leonard Cohen had a solution. Embrace the crack!

"Ring the bells that still can ring
Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack, a crack in everything
That’s how the light gets in"

Anthem, Leonard Cohen, 1992

So true. That's how the light does get in and how we heal

I am finding it easier to be my authentic self the older I get but getting to this point has been interesting! ha! Well, of course, Marcia was my favorite Brady but my favorite sitcoms were Gilligan's Island and Bewitched.

I've noticed with that too, as far as getting older. Marcia, Marcia, Marcia!! Gilligan's Island and Bewitched were classics too

Jane, this is a really awesome post! I remember The Brady Bunch and admit (gulp) that I've watched it in syndication. Perhaps Kintsugi with gold in the cracks would've made Mrs. Brady happy, I think.

Thanks so much! I watched it in reruns but my older sister remembers watching it when she was in Kindergarten, and it was on Friday nights! I thinks Carol would've been happy too 😉

What a timely piece. I’ve been in a funk all of last week, barely getting out of bed. I finally took a friend’s advice and made space for me to just be.

Did some art / creative writing, went to the beach, watched YouTube videos. I’m still not fully back, but at least I’m not pushing through with cheap glue.

I will say though, doing the “right” things also doesn’t feel golden and beautiful yet. I know it will, eventually, but right now even that glue is just a gooey mess that gets everywhere and I don’t know yet if it will hold or if I’ll fill all of the cracks.

Thanks Hanna! I'm glad that this resonated with you. I've been in a funk and that's why I brought this old post back and dusted it off. I'm glad your spending time of what restores you, it can't be rushed. Thanks so much for stopping by and commenting

Love the metaphor! I’ve definitely been guilty of hiding my flaws. The biggest one is that I collected transformer toys and comics into my late teen years. And I was so embarrassed I told almost no one!

Thanks! I should use more episodes other sitcoms and see what I come up with. No shame in comic books and transformers. My son (and husband) collect Legos. I do too

Cheap glue only works for so long. Sitcoms were a great escape for me as a kid and now! I loved Happy Days! I used to try beg my mom to let me stay up till 830 to watch it. Where have shows like that gone?
