Finding the right balance is key. I know I am prone to giving way more of myself to others when I honestly should be focusing on myself. It’s kind of like unsolicited advice except maybe a little less toxic. If you can catch yourself doing it and maybe find a middle ground, I think that’s progress for everyone. Great read!
For me, it’s not why do you feel the need to rescue? Instead, it’s why do you feel the need not to rescue? I can’t help myself, I’m a sucker for ever lost animal.
Jane, I strongly relate to your story and your conclusions as a person who suffers from hyper-responsibility. You're so right: We can't control everything, and learning to let go is the best way forward.
I do this TOO much with people. I always want to fix 'n' help. Learning as a parent that it can have the opposite effect and leave my kids less resilient and resourceful. Work in progress! This is important stuff and I will link to it in my Sunday round this week.
Thanks JFT! It does change as a parent for sure! It's painful to watch from the sidelines when I want to jump in. It's amazing now much they can figure out on their own. Our son just turned 17 so a whole other dynamic and more letting go. He knows we will always be there for him
Some things are out of our control. We can try all we can do. There is a natural cycle of life. There is also a cycle for people too. I always think of the movie Ground Hog Day. There are things we can change and others we have no control over
Thanks so much for your restack, John!

This. It’s hard to let go, but sometimes we have to.
It is Jenna. Thanks so for reading and commenting. I truly appreciate it
Always, Jane. I love reading your work. It’s open and honest in a way that is so relatable. ❤️
Thanks so much! I always enjoy reading your posts too. I'm currently listening to your cereal fiction. I need to catch up
Yay!
Yep! As I was driving home from the shore, and I started listening to them :)
I love that! Thank you for thinking of me!
