Rest used to be a "four letter word" for me, for sure. Now that's what I consider the word "lazy." The shame and judgment that word drips with is awful. And completely unnecessary. We're not human doings, we're human beings! We're allowed to rest when we need to! I invite you to give yourself permission.

I love the headstanders, they are so fun! I had one years ago that someone gifted me, it wasn't nearly as sturdy and beautiful as what you have. They are so much fun! And inversions with less effort is totally the way to go, in my mind. Heal up, Jane! You've got this!

Thanks so much Janine. Thanks for giving me permission. So hard.

My massage therpist/future yoga instructor is letting me try this out. I haven't done handstands since March and this is close as it gets. I've missed this. There's a type of yoga that goes with this it starts with a V? I'm too "lazy" to Google lol. Do you have info on that, Janine?

There are a couple that I am aware of, Vinyasa, which is what I teach and practice, and Viniyoga which is what TKV Desikachar teaches/taught. I believe that form of yoga is more tailor made to the student and specifically therapeutic, if I remember correctly. Does Svaroopa yoga use that? I know they use a million blankets, it’s a restorative yoga practice.

Yes insurance does suck , than almost two years ago , NY decided lets make a new list of what is covered . I had to change many meds , stop a few important tests , And watch my health get worse fast . I have sent letters to Nys officials . made calls .Yet nothing . My last letter to them was far from nice . I wrote plain and simple who will vote for you if we all die because of this crap . still no answer . So it is what it is , Yes like all I am scared to die , yet in a semi strange way , I did know it was coming , and not because of age . My worry is for every other patient going through same crap . Hugs and peace to you and family

Hi Jane, I'm sorry to hear about your knees, that must be so painful! 😣 Fingers crossed the injections give you some relief 🤞 Please take it easy and if it helps... think of your future self in a really bad state and wishing you had just rested more! Do your future self a favour and make the changes you have the chance to make now! ❤️ This has really helped me, so it seemed like a good time to share.. I hope it helps. 😊 As for the guilt... fuck that shit.. let it go NOW! 🤣

Thanks so much. It's always worse after the injections. Then improves. At least last time it did. Screw the guilt, right. I was bored as hell this weekend

I hope this is the last hump you have to get over medically and have a score of good years until the time that other ailments become part- or full-time jobs.

Yes, I cannot un-see it 😂 and yet I still want one! I have a yoga sling in my basement for doing inversion… when I take the time to do them. I do love the sling!

And rest is so needed. Part of my rest today is listening to newsletters (and commenting)— I’m on my chaise with my legs up in the back in a mini inversion. It feels for good!

I know, right? We were making all kinds if potty chair jokes tonight. I thought my brother-in-law was going to break neck on it. I want a yoga sling! I'd love to do those yoga classes where you hang on ropes and slings. Do you know what I mean? Enjoy the rest of your weekend. I'm still catching up on the stacks too

Thank you. Genetics, working out and eating as healthy as possible helps. I try but it feels like I'm fighting a losing battle. I expected to have OA when I was much older. I did have an bad knee injury as a teen and I'm sure that contributed to it

You have good Genes. :-) I think arthritis comes with the territory of getting older. I was a gymnast and now I have arthritis in my back. yeoch! :-)

Expand full comment
Jane Deegan's avatar

Thanks! I was in gymnastics too for several years, non-competitive though. Most of my jobs -a hairstylist for over 20 years and then a pet sitter dog walker. It takes its toll. I was running before this happened and ignored the signs. Did you compete in gymnastics?

Expand full comment
Lique's avatar

No. Just non-competitive in school and weekend classes. I was too tall and gave it up at the age of 15, but I now feel the effects of it.

Jane Deegan's avatar

That's pretty much what I did. I started later. I was on the taller side too for gymnastics
