Agree and support can look different for each person, including letting them be.

I definitely hear what you are saying. It is a fine art for sure and sometimes it takes a while if ever to figure out. Thanks!

Audience for sure and I have to be myself when I write. My husband is reading my articles now 😉 He is my number 1 Substack fan. We support our individual hobbies. I used to resent his cycling, until I realized how much of a part of him it is. I also wanted to make sure we had time together, with jobs, a family, running a business, relationships can unintentionally go on the backburner. It happened to us. There needs to be a balance of that in a relationship. Supporting individual hobbies can be a way to connect and take a glimpse into what makes your partner who they are. If that makes sense. Midlife can complicate things sometimes. At 55 I'm continuing to learn how and we are both evolving together

I support by letting him be. I don't have to involve myself in his hobbies and he doesn't have to support me in mines. I'm a little different in that way.

I find it hard sometimes to encourage my wife when I don’t have a particular interest in what she is working on. I also feel she has the same problem towards me.

Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely want her to succeed and enjoy what that might be because I am her husband and I love her more than anything on this planet and always want her to be happy.

I am just scared of sounding disenginous or fake which can make it far worse!

For me there is a fine art in doing it correctly I have yet to master.

Thank you for bridging this uncomfortable topic.

Knowing who your audience is… that’s key! And I support my guys hobbies and encourage him. As he does mine. He is NOT a reader though… and he still manages to make time to read what I write! That’s love. Ha!
