I can’t imagine a lifelong love like this. It’s so nice to see. I fall in the category of the 3 loves in our lifetime. Have you heard of that one?

I have heard something like that too and 1st love is true love but some realize it too late or aren't ready for it

Beautiful story...uplifting in so many ways. I really enjoyed it. And congratulations! Your success in marriage is something that has been so elusive for me. 🤷🏼‍♀️ "I looked all around this town and all I saw was Earl"-Dixie Chicks 😂

David and I met at Hershey park at a youth group retreat. He was 16 and I was 14. We spent 3 days together and every minute was a thrill. David always told me it was love at 1st sight for him. We lived over 6 hours away from each other. We wrote letters back and forth for a year consistently. And then it stopped. We both dated other people but we both admitted we were still on our minds. My senior year he email me. I gave him my number and we would spend hours on the phone. I finally worked up the nerve to ask my parents if he could come visit, and to my surprise they said yes. I still have that picture ingrained in my head seeing this handsome young man pulling into my driveway in his sweet Monte Carol. My heart skipped a beat. This was the 1st of many visits. I was totally floating on cloud nine and couldn’t have been more enamored! We dating long distance for over 2 years, until he finally popped the question in 2001! We were just kids him 21 and me just one month shy of turning 21 when we tied the knot! We meet many unforeseeable life changing challenges in our 22 years of marriage, but we have always managed to come back to each other. He will always be my person no matter how many battles we struggle through.

Thanks so much for sharing your story! Hershey isn't too from where we live and I've been there many times, mostly concerts. What a beautiful story! We were very young when we got married at 19 and he was 21. Congratulations on 22 years of marriage!

I met mine ten years before we met again and got together. We both had significant relationships in the years between. Congratulations on such a long and wonderful relationship.

Such a lovely story!

I met my husband on a camping trip in 1988. Married for 32 years.

Challenges for sure. Now that we are in mid-life and the children are grown and away, we find ourselves re-discovering old passions and activities or finding new ones.

Navigating this transition and re-discovering our independence through separate activities and travel has been a way to fill the void that young children left behind.

In addition, compatibility, adaptability and companionship are key to lengthy marriages.

Thank you for reading and your kind words. Thanks for sharing your story too. Independence through separate actives is so important. You grow as individuals and then you come back together. It took me years to figure that out though. Congratulations on your 32 years together

Yes, it took me a while to figure it out too. I actually wrote a post last week about being a "ski widow" that discusses that topic. For years, we think we have to be a part of all of our partners activities. We don't, and we shouldn't. We need to keep our own independence and have our own activities. A variation of activities is great for our mental health, particularly in retirement when we no longer have our work to keep our mind busy.

Hi Susan! I enjoyed your ski widow article and can related too. I am a cycling widow. Lol. I commented on that last week and it resonated with me and agree with own actives and independent ones from each other too

Oh and this article I wrote last month about sharing different hobbies than your spouse. Not sure if you had a chance to check it out

This is so beautiful! I love hearing your story!! So much wonderful puppy love that has turned into something bigger and deeper over decades of true partnership! Happy anniversary!!

And to sum up my marriage origin story - I met my husband Jacob while acting in a dinner theatre production of Grease. 🤣 He was in the audience supporting a friend in the show and we had to go interact with people in character. I was playing Frenchie and told him that I liked his hair. It’s all history from there. 💛
