Jane, you are such a beautiful soul. Your writing really touches my heart. In my lifetime, I have had several pets, cats, dogs, rabbits and ducks . Every single one of them was treated as family. And as you said , they are always with us more so even than our actual family. They love us unconditionally. Their passing is always heartbreaking. Thankfully, they will live forever in our memories never to be forgotten. I'm happy to see that you have two little fur baby cats to love and to be loved by.
Thanks so much, Kathleen!! You made my day, really! Pets are family weather they are fur or feathered. I have a few ducks that I pet sit for as well, rabbits, birds and other small animals. So many lovable pets to spoil
Losing a pet is so hard. I’ve dealt with it a couple of times over the last few years. My border collie/beagle mix named Zoe passed away. My pomchi Jessie grieved for a few days, but my ragdoll/Siamese cat named Gizmo grieved for her for 2-3 weeks—would hardly eat and slept more. Then he passed a couple of years ago. I think I grieved more over the cat than the dog, but Gizmo was the last of the two pets I’d had when my kids were still at home. I think I felt like all the memories from when my kids were younger went with him.
I still have Jessie, and I’ve added Belle, a chiweenie I rescued a little over five years ago. But they’re getting older, so I know I’ll be grieving them at some point in the next few years.
I'm so sorry you've had to experience all these losses of your beloved pets in such a short time span. Pet grief is real. Pet grief is hard. And yet, the heartache is worth it because the joy our pets bring is priceless.
Many do not understand pet grief, but fortunately some do. Thank you for sharing about your deep love for all your pets and about the painful losses. Enjoy the kitties even as your heart hurts.
