Photos and poetry by Jane Deegan
One night
just past midnight
I walked out the door
To explore
the moonlit night
Then I jumped in fright
when I saw my shadow
to the right
We sang a song
as we walked along
We walked past the park
and into the woods so dark
I saw an old house so broken
Then I heard these words spoken
“You better hide!”
So, I slowly stepped inside
I gasped and looked down the hall
This house was not broken at all
How deceiving
outer appearances can keep you from believing.
Winding stairs ahead
gave me a feeling of dread
So, I walked out the door
I didn't want to explore anymore.
I stepped outside
and to my surprise
I was on the street
in a quiet town
The old house was nowhere to be found
I wandered down street
There were no people I could meet
I wanted to go home
I had no idea how far I roamed
Was this a dream?
How real it seemed
I spotted the woods again
And a yard so familiar then.
I was home
The pages would be no longer blank
and I’d have my words to thank.
The places my mind goes
when my imagination flows.
I felt like I was right there with you!
Beautiful to stroll with you
Thank you
