For a moment I was shocked
At the glimpse I caught
It was a reflection I sought
She was strong
She was toned
She surprised herself
She knew the moment was fleeting
She looked beyond the tired eyes
Cellulite developing on thighs
Extra padding on sides
This is 55
She sees the unconventional beauty
She's never been the ideal
But that's what makes her real
She blends into the crowd
And can still be proud
Heart on sleeve
Her biggest liability
Dark hair and eyes
The body of a 25 year-old long demised
“I'm stronger than I thought I'd be 55”
Her body won't tell lies
Sore shoulder and knees
Loss of identity
She can still be fit
She vows to never let go of it
She is a mom
A wife
A friend
A sister
A daughter so long ago
She is loved
She is their world
Even if her brow is furled
This was beautiful and needed it as I look beyond similar things - a preamble to learning to love the changes in my body and simultaneously a morning mantra. Thank you for sharing….🤍
So beautiful and poignant 😊
