It can be difficult when you notice numbers dropping but the algorithm doesn’t define who we are. You are an amazing writer Jane…keep showing up 😊🙏🌻

I’ve noticed a similar drop, too—maybe it’s a seasonal thing, Summer’s here and there’s lots more for people to do?

I don’t know how the algorithm works but I am happy to have an audience and, as you do, I also show up as often as I can.

Maybe. This has been going on for myself for several months. I feel like I'm missing so many writers here!

I am thankful for audience for sure.

Just keep doing what you’re doing. Someone will read it.

That's what I figure. It's odd that my views dropped by 5k over a month. Maybe a glitch. It doesn't mattet I think

I guess who's meant to see them will

I came here for a very similar purpose as you did, Jane - to get words out that explain what's going on in my head. I think a lot of us do.

As for your questions:

1. I like data, and so I do check up from time to time how many views my Stack gets, and whether people comment or not. However, I don't write to try to increase those numbers. I try to be genuine, and share my experiences and ideas, in the hopes that someone learns something. If I did that, then I did a good job.

2. I read notes from people that I follow/subscribe, and skim those from other people. Sometimes from skimming I do discover new people to follow.

3. Save for one post - which I think blew up slightly because I mentioned Trump in the title - most of my posts only get read by my subscribers; they don't really get read by others that randomly peruse the platform. I'm not sure exactly why this is. Maybe it's because my content doesn't neatly fall within one of Substack's categories. Maybe it's because I suck at marketing. Or maybe it's some other reason. I don't know.

Thanks so much, Dylan for sharing your insights here. I think it's interesting to hear other writer's experiences.

Categories - that makes sense too.

I don't write for an algorithm, I write for myself. Maybe that's why, but I don't want to write any other way.

I truly appreciate you stopping by to comment. I'm subscribed to you. I'll have to check out your articles.

I feel like I'm only seeing a select about of creators here.

I came to meet like minded people and improve my writing. I have meet many great writers and artists that now my inbox is always full and I'm days behind catching up on so many interesting news letters, I often lose the momentum to write my own :)

Algorithms PAH! They help but I am here to read great posts. Like yours. They help me and guide. I am a bit of a scroller. And I make an effort to read as much as I can under the circumstances. Travelling is a pain with good WiFi connection.
