We are more than our "9 to 5" jobs
My triggering moment that made me realize I was a creator!
Have you ever been triggered by a comment and wonder if that’s how you are seen?
I won’t repeat the comment. I’m sure it was said innocently, but it struck to my core.
We are more than any one part of ourselves. What we do for a living does not define us.
I am a creator
I am a creator. I created my own business. I had a vision, and I created it. I manage all aspects of it every day. I do more than scoop dog poop. Yet, there is a nagging feeling that I am less than. That feeling comes from within myself.
I also create through words. I write for myself. I write because I need to. I write because it’s who I am. I desperately want that part to be seen. I know not everyone is a reader and my subject material is not for everyone.
Why do I get triggered and not feel enough?
I could blame my childhood. I could blame ADHD. I was called stupid in my past from peers and teachers. When I got to high school there were airhead comments by some. I would laugh at the joke and then eventually I played the part. “You’ll get by on your looks.” I was told back then and I almost believed them.
I haven’t heard those comments since childhood, yet deep inside I carry them.
It is empowering to be able to create through words and art
The feeling of empowerment and joy I get when creating through words should be enough, but it isn’t always.
For most of my adult life I have been trying to prove that I am not stupid. I am smart. And I am capable. All of this contributes to perfectionism and self-sabotage.
Creativity is a superpower!
We need to believe that. The feeling can be euphoric when you express yourself through writing and art. There’s nothing like it in the world. I wouldn’t want to imagine a world without it.
Do you notice the artist behind the creation? Tell them today that you do. You will brighten their day.
Jane, I see you as a fantastic creator. But even if you didn't create, you still wouldn't be stupid. I'm glad creating makes you feel capable and empowered.
Consider how many millions of people scoop for free two or three times a day and never figure out how to monetize it!
