Jumping back in time is nice to do if it is only in your mind. My dreams, sometimes, will shoot me to my past but then I wake up with a smile and sit up in bed and remember where all my aches and pains came from.

Sounds and scents have the enormous power of transporting us back in time! My own "repertoire" of transporting-me-back is vast :-), too :-)

Well done you for getting up to see your son off even if you didn't need to.

Isn't it amazing how smells, sounds and music and even food can do that? My son will be in college next year. I'm soaking it up while I can.

Christina Migone-Benfield's avatar

Absolutely. And yes, do soak it up!

For me, I think the song to bring me back to this specific time with my near-teenage son will be the Stranger Things soundtrack.

For my 15 year old self, any song by N*Sync.

Oh yes! Music with our children too can bring it too. I almost forgot how long ago the first season was with Stranger Things.

I think I get nostalgic with "The Wiggles" and "Mind Craft Game Music" I listened to with my son. Not always as a choice 😉

If you want go deep in the feelings on this emotion listen to "Seventeen" by Sharon Van Etten!

Thanks Stephany! I'll check it out.

Reading this has got me thinking about getting ready for school in the 1980s. My mum often had the radio playing in the kitchen. One of the songs I remember was Trouble In Paradise by Al Jarreux. If I hear it today, I'm transported back to that moment. It's such a special feeling.

It really is when certain songs transport us back in time. That's beautiful to remember your mom that way.

Man, I have a host of things that can take me back, for different reasons. Sometimes is hearing a song with the right climate outside and it’s like Groundhog Day, living it all again.

“Over My Head”, by Fleetwood Mac

“We May Never Pass this Way Again” by Seals & Crofts

“Ventura Highway” by America

All have their meaning and all can play in my head for days at a time.

I am taken back to elementary school music class with "Pass This Way Again." I can see little Jane swinging her feet singing. Haha

Thanks for sharing your memories. Isn't it interesting the time of year, location and song can bring it all back

“We May Never…” was our senior prom theme. I guess that shows our age difference 🙄

I saw it was released in 1973 before I was even in school 😉
