Chapter 38
Amanda was furious! She couldn’t believe this was happening to her again! That bitch, Marissa Gibbens, was getting in her way. That earthy, wholesome, stupid woman Tad thought he still loved was screwing things up.
Why, oh why, was she always the other woman? She angrily tossed her glass across the room, and it shattered near her fireplace. Then in frustration she screamed into a pillow so as not to cause alarm to the neighbors nearby.
There was no way Tad could escape her now. Amanda had gained access to his cell phone and would be able to track his phone and see his text messages as well. She was glad she had her ex-con client, Howard, to help her out with that by showing her how to hack into Tad’s phone. He owed her more than a couple of favors for helping to keep him out of jail yet again.
Amanda’s phone buzzed to alert her of Tad’s movement. From the notification it looked like Tad was heading to the Maple Glenn Development. Amanda noticed Tad’s car pause and then head out in the opposite direction. She could tell by his call log that he either tried to call Marissa and hung up, or it was a very short conversation. Either way Tad was thinking of contacting his soon to be ex-wife and that infuriated her.
There had to be a way to stop Tad and Marissa from screwing things up. Natalia was gone, thanks to Barney’s stupidity (and he almost messed that up too). Now it was time to get rid of Marissa. All she would need was a little help.
Chapter 39
Natalia continued to haunt Barney from his dreams. Barney saw her sitting on the edge of a boat. The boat and the background looked so familiar. Then Natalia turned and suddenly became Marissa. His angel. She smiled coyly at him, flashing her white teeth. Her blue eyes turned to fear as the sky got darker.
“Please help me,” she tried to scream, but appeared to be choking. Barney was unable to move. He looked down and saw a body motionless on the deck. When he turned the body over, he saw Natalia’s face. Her wide hazel eyes staring up at him.
“Barney,” she whispered. “Don’t let it happen again.”
Then he was outside of a building. He heard heels clicking on the wet sidewalk. They walked faster as he tried to chase the footsteps.
Then they disappeared into a building. It was cold. There was someone else in there. A figure in black.
The figure motioned to Barney to be quiet.
The woman he was following walked into an apartment building and paused for a moment to turn up the thermostat. This was finally Barney’s chance to talk to her.
He only wanted to talk.
Then his Natalia was silenced forever.
Natalia’s petite body crumpled to the floor. The tall figure in black stood over her body.
“What did you do?” he asked the figure.
“She’s your’s now, Barney,” the figure said. The voice was strangely familiar.
The figure slowly removed her hood and black hair cascaded around her shoulders.
“You can save her from her sin,” the woman in black told Barney.
He saw a bathtub. His Natalia was in it. Her black dress sticking to her body.
Natalia fought to get out of the tub.
“I’ll save you,” Barney shouted. Natalia tried to fight, but the woman in black was too powerful.
Then everything went black.
Barney screamed, waking himself up. He panted and looked around his apartment in the dark.
It was a dream, but it wasn’t. Memories have been coming back to him, streaming into his mind one after another, over and over. The memories that he had been trying to shake.
Was this dream trying to tell him something? He had an uneasy feeling, like he was actually there. The woman, that woman in the shadows. He knew her.
Sobs racked Barney’s body. He had a strange premonition that his Rissa was in trouble now. He didn’t know how. All he knew was that he had to save her. Not just from her sin and the wrath of God above, but also from the evil on earth as well.
Amanda sucks! The worst therapist ever!
“He owed her more than a couple of favors for helping to keep him out of jail yet again.”
She’s a real piece of work!
