One beautiful day
in the month of May
The buck saw his fawn
she was the most beautiful on the lawn
He chased the others away
and said let’s play
Day after day
he kept the others away
They grazed
in the morning haze
they strode in the moonlight
he protected her every night
Winter came
days stayed the same
Then came spring
and beautiful offspring
She cared for them all
into the fall
then one day
she got caught in a snare
her leg beyond repair
yet she took care of her fawns all day
while her buck strode away
She could no longer run
in the fields having fun
Seasons passed one by one
so many days under the sun
she was no longer young
oh, those songs unsung
Her fawns wandered outside of the woods
it was time that they should
Alone she limped beside a brook
and took one look at her reflection
and saw a doe
standing in the snow
and a buck admiring her gaze
in the morning haze
He huffed
and said, “That’s enough!
I see you
and that buck
you are out of luck!”
The vision in the stream
made him mean
He had to go
before it snowed.
“You can’t go,” he boomed
but I will hide you
from that buck
that is testing his luck.”
She didn’t fight
afraid to be alone at night
they found a fence
too high for her to flee
Day after day
she hid
wondering what she did
she was fading
so tired of waiting
When he returned
he was on the other side of the gate
she could never escape
This was her fate.
That was a rough poem about the day and night of a doe. Maybe things got better. Check out the new movie: Bambi: The Reckoning, it also is a movie that is coming out this year. The dark side of Bambi growing up.
