Chapter 5
Barney Blevins scowled at his computer. These posts on this Scripted platform were so annoying, a bunch of self-important assholes. Where was she? The beautiful woman he saw this morning. It was his only reason for coming here.
Barney closed the door. He didn’t want Natalia to know he was looking online for that blonde woman on the water. How would he ever explain it to the love of his life?
While he waited for the mystery woman to appear online, he would write more in his book of Barnabas. So far all was going as planned. “Thy will be done,” Barney said aloud.
Chapter 6
It was Wednesday, five days since the creepy social media post. Marissa had completely forgotten about it, work and running her children to events had a way of doing that. School had just started, and the year was in full swing.
She was not expecting to see a message on her post.
“Beautiful girl. My eyes capture visions of you. You almost tried; you didn’t win. You made me want to stray from my woman. You almost succeeded. Nothing will take me from my woman. Here is a link I write for beautiful women like you.” - Barr
Marissa could feel her heart drop. She almost forgot about this person. She would block, but would it warrant a report? Before blocking though, she was curious about this man. Was he harassing others? What about this link? Did he write twisted poetry about other women?
She looked at the clock and was surprised to see it was going on 9 p.m. It was time for her children to go to bed.
Where the hell was her husband? He had been working later and later each night.
Marissa sighed. Time to call it a day. After work tomorrow she would investigate this odd person online that went by the name of Barr.
Amanda was glad the restaurant was dimly lit. Soon Tad would be meeting her for dinner.
She purposely chose a location an hour outside of her office in hopes of not being seen by anyone she knew, especially her clients. What would she say if she did see someone she knew? She could tell them he was her boyfriend, but most people knew who Tad Gibbens was from his high-profile court case last year.
Amanda hoped she could somehow get access to Tad’s office. To his files, but how? Maybe on his phone? She decided that “surprising” him in his office would work. For now, she would have to have dinner with him to set the bait.
Tad turned heads as he walked past the bar. He was wearing a tight black shirt and Khakis. She didn’t know if it was his walk or his overconfidence that made him noticeable. He kind of reminded her of the old Carly Simon song about being so vane or something like that. She usually couldn’t stand men like him, but she had bigger plans. What to do about his wife? How pretty could she be? Amanda wondered.
Tad’s wife Marissa, sounded like a little mouse. Amanda decided. It was time to find out more about her, and once she did, changing his mind would be easy. She knew it.
“Keeping me waiting?” Amanda asked with a sly smile.
Tad eyed her up and down. Her black dress hugged every curve of her body. When she leaned forward it showed her ample cleavage.
“What’s the rush,” Tad said and winked at her.
“I’ll forgive you this time,” Amanda said.
The waiter stopped by and took their order. Tad ordered an expensive bottle of wine for them both.
“So, where’s your wife?” Amanda asked innocently.
“Oh, at home! She never wants to do anything. Probably wrapped up in that PTA crap or her writing.” He rolled his eyes.
Amanda laughed. “Be nice Tad.”
“You know, you look absolutely stunning in that dress,” Tad said.
Amanda smiled and knew her plan was working. He was captivated by her. Soon he would be putty in her hands.
“So,” Amanda said tilting her head to the side, “have you recovered from that big profile case last year?”
Tad could feel blood rushing to his face. He lost that case. She knew that!
“That poor woman. A singer. How tragic,” Amanda said flatly.
“He didn’t do it!” Tad said sharply.
Amanda didn’t want to argue with him; she knew the evidence was piled up against the singer’s boyfriend. Nine chances out of ten, it was the boyfriend or husband of the victim that committed the murder. Tad had no chance of winning the case.
Amanda shrugged as their meals arrived.
She changed the conversation, as a therapist she was gifted at getting people to open up. She laughed at the right times and asked all the right questions. It was all about trust and ego. Amanda knew she was winning. Soon she would get the answers she needed. Listening to him drone on about his boat, Amanda kicked back another glass of wine. All in good time. She reminded herself. Patience was the key.
I love how this is unfolding! Looking forward to the next chapters 😊
