A Sliver in Time
Holding on to these moments
Breeze Blowing
grass dancing
like a prairie
so wild and free
surrounding me
this cooler morning
in my sanctuary
free of heat
smoke
and storms
In our garden beyond
wildflowers take stage
and I can’t help to notice
it is truly a beautiful world
and I wonder
Why we don’t slow down more?
Why can’t we stop and look up?
Why can’t I?
All I can do is remind myself and try
even though time keeps slipping by.
About my poem
My dad passed away young; it’s been almost 28 years now.
Soon after I learned of his terminal illness,
I felt like I woke up from years of being asleep.
As I drove that late spring day,
I looked around and wondered why so many people were rushing around.
Did they not see this beautiful day?
I vowed to see it after that.
I promised to stop once in awhile and look, really look.
I also vowed to have my life be less traditional. To be my own.
A loss of a parent earlier in life can have that effect. You quickly see what is truly important.
Yet even now, so many years later, I have to remind myself of that.

Thank you for this poem, Jane.
They tell us here in Georgia that our heat index will be in the triple digits for the next week. Yea us.
